Summer 1988 - Black Walnut - 20 x 30 inches
This relief carving of a cap was commissioned by the plant manager of the Russellville, KY division of Red Kap Industries, a clothing manufacturer. My left leg was in a cast with a broken tibial plateau at the time I made this carving and I didn't take as much time as I should have selecting the wood from which to make it. It's made of three pieces connected by dowels to appear as one piece of wood. Some small fissures opened up some months after I completed it. I repaired them at no charge.
Red Kap of Russellvile has closed. This carving is now in the possession of Jimmy Prince of Russellville, KY. He worked at the Red Kap plant for 45 years.
