Prairie Wind by Frank Lyne

March 1995 - Sassafras - ht. 10 in., diameter 9 in., wt. 3 lbs.

This carving was made on a challenge of sorts. It was once a custom at the Hopkinsville Art Guild for members to bring works to each meeting reflecting a theme special to that month. I took my carving "What the West Wind Saw" to the February 1995 meeting. Sam Gilky, the program chairman, announced that the theme for March would be wind. I told him that I guessed that I would bring the same carving back in March. He didn't even grin or hesitate before saying, "I expect you'll have to make another one." So I did. It simply depicts prairie grass swaying in the wind.

Besides that one day showing to get a chuckle out of Sam Gilky, this carving was exhibited only once. It won best of show at the December 1995 Tennessee Art League juried membership show and was purchased at that show.
